Vertigo following cochlear implantation: a review

چکیده
Cochlear implantation may cause a detrimental effect on vestibular function and residual hearing. A significant number of patients with cochlear implant present vertigo. There are several mechanisms for dizziness following implantations. The causes be surgical trauma, disruption normal physiology, or ensuing endolymphatic hydrops. Vibratory trauma affecting the cochlea during cochleostomy plays vital role in causing paroxysmal vertigo implant. In addition, vibrations enough to dislodge otoconia particles. During implantation, it is necessary insert an electrode array into thus chance damage happen. Dizziness develop after implantation. It usually occurs due hypofunction. Vertigo has not frequently been documented literature previously. However, increasing implantations current scenario showing different postoperative complications like symptoms among range from gradual sense mild unsteadiness lightheadedness brief attacks whirling affects quality life although therapy often helpful manage this condition. article aims provide comprehensive review

Bilateral benign paroxysmal positional vertigo following a tooth implantation.
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a common cause of vertigo and may occur following recent head trauma. Bilateral involvement in BPPV is considered rare and has received little attention in the medical literature. We describe an unusual case of bilateral BPPV in a middle-aged woman that presented during a dental implantation, performed with the use of osteotomes. We discuss the dia...
متن کاملCOCHLEAR IMPLANTATION IN IRAN
Cochlear implantation has become an increasingly common procedure in the rehabilitation of selected cases of profound deafness.' Patients should have profound total bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Sound is transformed into small electric currents which stimulate the auditory nerves in the cochlea and generate the hearing sensation. The nucleus cochlear implant is the result of more t...
متن کاملCochlear implantation following treatment for medulloblastoma.
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Medulloblastoma is the most common pediatric malignant tumor of the central nervous system in children. Treatment includes surgical excision, external beam radiation, and multiagent chemotherapy. Otologic sequelae are common and may result from radiation and/or chemotherapy. Profound sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is a known complication of neuro-oncologic treatment and...
متن کاملCochlear implantation following temporal bone fracture
Patients with bilateral temporal bone fractures frequently suffer profound hearing loss. These patients may benefit from cochlear implantation. Displaced fracture lines and ossification of the cochlea might complicate insertion of the electrode array. In the present paper we present a case of a failed cochlear implantation due to ossification of the cochlea, followed by a successful one on the ...
متن کاملSurgical Complications of Cochlear Implantation
Cochlear implantation is a method used for the treatment of patients with profound hearing loss. This procedure may the accompanied by some major or minor complications. We evaluated the surgical complications of cochlear implantation in Fars province (south of Iran). A total of 150 patients with cochlear implantation were enrolled in the present study. Most of the patients were pre-lingual chi...
